In the first leg of its four-show debut urban tour, comedy duo Bitches’ Box will grace the Clarence Street Theatre stage Hamilton this weekend.

To help fund their film, Sons of a Bitch, show creators Emma Newborn and Amelia Dunbar are bringing their new live show The Bitches Box: Episode 4 to Hamilton, Arrowtown, Hastings, and Christchurch starting on August 17.

The pair are determined to prove the naysayers wrong after being turned down for funding to complete their movie due to a “perceived lack of audience”.

“This is not just about making a movie. This is about bridging the gap between urban and rural communities through laughter,” Newborn said.

“Our 12 years of touring tells us we do have a faithful audience, and this film is our way of saying thank you while showcasing Kiwi oddball humour at its finest.”

They are also seeking support through a Pledge Me campaign, to bring their unique brand of rural humour to urban audiences in their new film project.

“We wouldn’t be at this point without you – our loyal supporters. Join us on this wild filmmaking ride and we promise some unique rewards for your contribution,” Dunbar added.

“Together, we can offer NZ and the world a taste of heartland, quirky fun that celebrates our country’s beloved companions through our documentary style portrayals.”

The Bitches’ Box film aims to appeal to farmers, growers, dog lovers, Kiwis, and anyone who appreciates off-beat “bat-shit crazy” and “terrifically bonkers” comedy. With four successful comedy shows under their belt that have received glowing reviews across NZ, Australia, and the UK, Newborn and Dunbar are confident in their ability to deliver a film that will leave audiences laughing out loud.

The live show will not only include a performance of their new show The Bitches’ Box: Episode 4, but also a support act from Australian comedian Tessa Waters. Attendees will also get an exclusive sneak peek at footage from their film, Sons of a Bitch, giving them a taste of what’s in store when the film is completed.
