LeaderBrand chief executive Richard Burke will stand down from the role later this year.
Burke began his career with the produce company as a tractor driver 30 years ago. His leadership, regional knowledge and farming background meant he quickly moved into management roles, and he became the chief executive in 2012.
LeaderBrand chair Susan Huria said Burke has been pivotal in the company’s change in direction from the export to domestic market, particularly driving the strategy around salads.
“He has been instrumental in acquisitions, joint ventures and the development and construction of our state-of-the-art processing plant, head office, and distribution centre as well as the development of our Future Farm’s greenhouse along with our partners Kanoa Regional Development and Investment Unit,” Huria said.
Burke was key to the company’s recovery from Cyclone Gabrielle and “we certainly wouldn’t be in the position we are in today without Richard’s dedication, tenacity, and business commitment”.
The business will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year. Richard McPhail, son of founder Murray McPhail, will become LeaderBrand’s managing director, supported by Gordon McPhail as executive director.
