The finish of the east coast bull sales this season was delayed by a week for the second year in a row because of the storm that hit the region in the final few days of June.

Kenhardt and Turiroa Angus sales were held on July 4, postponed from June 26.

Their results will be published in Farmers Weekly on July 15, when the full season will be wrapped up.

In the seventh week of the autumn sale season, Glanworth Angus at Pahiatua had a top price of $22,000 for Waigroup 22009.

Glanworth sold 22 out of 26 offered and had an average of $7772.

Seven Hills Angus, Pahiatua, sold Lot 39 for $13,000 to a commercial farmer, well through the catalogue of 52, with 42 sold at an average price of $7400.

In Northland, Matauri Angus at Tangowahine sold 25 from 30 with an average of $6220.

The purchaser of the highest priced bull at $11,000 was Grant West from nearby Tangiteroria.

Tawa Hills Angus, Gisborne, sold 10 of 13 with an average of $5400 and a top of $7000 twice.

Shamrock Angus, Kereru, sold eight bulls for an average of $6750 and a top of $8500.

In Focus Podcast | Stud bull prices have end of season surge

With our regular host Bryan Gibson still laid low with covid this week, senior journalist Richard Rennie talks to senior journalist Hugh Stringleman.

Stringleman unpacks some of the recent record prices paid for Angus stud bulls at this late point in the selling season, coming after a relatively lacklustre round of stud sales in past weeks.

He also talks in detail about the challenge facing Synlait as it seeks to raise $130 million to pay off loans due in early July.
